A mysterious journey
Say hello to our wandering gypsy, "Spirit of CCC". This blog will chronicle the journey exploring those many places in our country touched by the Civilian Conversation Corps. Here's how it works:
A) If you find the gypsy, you may choose to log in but leave it camped in the current location. Finds may be logged on AQ.
however, we hope you will.......
B) Help the gypsy by moving it's camp along to a new location. The gypsy is searching for any place touched by the CCC~ state parks, structures, camps where the Corps stayed. Replant the gypsy in it's new camp, then email us with the clue and brief explanation of it's CCC connection. The new information will be posted here immediately, and you will be rewarded with a printable certificate for your logbook.
When our gypsy is moved, please make every effort to choose a CCC location as quickly as possible. Boxers from all over the country may be watching this blog in the hopes of a gypsy visit of their own. For general information about the CCC and possible spots for the gypsy to set up camp, general google.com searches will yield a WEALTH of information.
Better hurry! Rumor has it that gypsies never stay in one camp very long, choosing new locations very quickly. The author once missed a gypsy traveling close to her home by * twenty minutes* after watching her for months. Good luck, and may you be blessed by the Spirit Gypsy very soon!
1~~ The Spirit Gypsy will not be able to resist the welcome bonfire happening on March 9, 2007. The Gypsy is very friendly and will greet anyone who wishes to say hello while the bonfire lasts. It will begin it's journey with the first person to find it at the Museum after 2:00pm on March 10, 2007.
2~~ Spirit Gypsy is on the move! It was picked up at the location above at the CCC Heritage Gathering. Watch here for an update as soon as it's replanted. 3.11.07

While visiting the old Vogel Lodge, find the non-working outhouse. Pass it, keeping the outhouse to your left and there will be some rock steps behind it. Take the steps down and stop when you get to the bottom. You will notice a rock wall that runs to your left. Go about 6 feet down the wall from the steps and stop. Look up about 5 1/2 feet and notice 2 rocks that don't look like they belong. The Spirit Gypsy is tucked discreetly behind the 2 movable rocks.
4~~ New location! 2.24.08
The Civilian Conservation Corps are responsible for the creation of 17 parks in the state of South Carolina. You can read about their contributions here:

Your quest for the Spirit Gypsy begins at a structure well associated with the CCC. This structure in all it grandeur is still in use today (for weddings and parties) and hosts some incredible views. Find your way here. There are informational plaques here to educate you more on it's history. Walk out and admire the view. Look down and you should notice rock steps that lead down to the water. Find your way to these steps and follow them. They should lead you to the waters edge and on a path. Follow this path to the right. It comes around into a small cove, then takes a V, follow along. You will find some additional steps along the way. The path will start to descend and as soon as you notice you are at the waters edge again stop. You will have just passed a tree in the path (that you had to walk around) and the spot is about 5 steps away from this tree. Look up to the right and you should notice a large stump. Nestled inside this stump, you will find the Spirit Gypsy.
